outdoor cycling sessions start 3rd March

Now that the Spin Supremos have laid their weapons aside, it’s time to oil the chain, pump up the tyres and check the brakes before we head back out into rural Tayside for some group cycling sessions.

There will be two routes on offer starting this Saturday – a longer ride and a shorter ride so feel free to choose between them both.   As a guide the longer route will be traveling at an overall average of approx 18-20 mph and there is a possibility the stronger riders will head out even faster.   The shorter group will cater those who want to ride at a slower pace and is designed to stay in their group from the start of the ride to the end.

The first 3 weeks will see both groups meet at the regular meeting point of the Monifieth Health Centre (MHC) but once the clocks change and the weather gets better we will be varying the meeting place to take account of the different routes on offer and the spread of members across the city.   We’ll also be trying to arrange start/finish points around conveniently placed coffee shops.  (Mapometer routes now on here.)

BOTH RIDES MEET AT 8am & DEPART FROM MHC NO LATER THAN 8:10 am (They wont wait!)

However if you’d rather meet the group ‘en-route’ please feel free to do so but you’ll need to make sure you’ve told someone who is departing with the main group so they can look out for you on the way.

Long Ride Group
03/03/12    MHC – Errol and back 40 miler (we can go as far as St Madoes if needed) time trial style from Invergowrie.   CLICK FOR ROUTE
10/03/12    MHC – Glen Prosen Loop 61miles  CLICK FOR ROUTE
17/03/12    Meet Monikie for the Monikie Duathlon loop 40km Time trial (2 laps)  CLICK FOR ROUTE

Short Ride Group
03/03/12    MHC to Easthaven and back  CLICK FOR ROUTE
10/03/12    MHC – Arbroath/ Easthaven from Monifieth  CLICK FOR ROUTE
17/03/12    Meet Monikie for the Monikie Duathlon loop 20km Time trial (1 lap)   CLICK FOR ROUTE

These routes allow some progression in distance over the 2 weeks and then a time trial to gauge start of season fitness levels.   We can then go into another 3 or 4 week block and repeat the TT at some point in April possibly an evening once clocks change.
