Hope you are all recovered from Fridays duathlon! We are back again with another Grand Prix event tomorrow night with the timed 5k! Meet point will be at the esplanade car park for a 7pm start. Good luck everyone and let's see some p.bs!

Monifieth Triathlon club formed in 2010. We are based in Monifieth, near Dundee, in Scotland. Affiliated to the STA we are a friendly club catering for triathletes of all levels including juniors. We promote the sport at a local level and offer training in all three disciplines to all members.

Over the next few weekends I'm hoping to check out some of the local triathlon / duathlon routes on the bike. If you've signed up or you would just like to come along you'd be very welcome. This is a 'cycle as friends' and not a coached ride.![]()

You will have seen some posts of our shenanigans yesterday, but for those who just can’t get enough of it, here is the ‘official’ race report:![]()

This race was meant to take place in May 2020, and had been postponed a record 4 times (not all due to covid). This had damaged the reputation of the previously popular fast course, and perhaps due to loss of income this really did not have the buzz of a big brand long course race. I’ll get the complaints in first - poor briefing, no safety in the swim practice, the most rubbish expo of all time, no bag drop, ‘recovery area’ was a drink and a slice of pizza under the beating sun, and worst of all NO BACKPACK.![]()
The good points were the stunning venue, excellent amenities, completely closed motorway for the bike and some nice firemen with hoses (ooh er) on the run. ![]()

It was the first attempt at this distance for Ricky, Ewan, Steven and Mo, and tensions were running high. Daria was on hand to add a burst of enthusiasm whilst I just felt generally emotional.![]()

The swim was in a calm marina, great temperature under the shadow of the famous Oceanarium.![]()
The format of 4 out and back loops on the bike and the run meant there were plenty of opportunities to shout encouragement to one another although this seriously dwindled towards the end as the mercury was approaching 30 deg. ![]()

Ewan seemed immune to the heat and smashed his expected time. The rest of us performed ‘survival running’ and it was great to have Steven’s partner Nikki shouting for us as we minced onwards in the final stages under the beating sun. Daria was catching Mo and I all the way, and having been neck and neck with Mo most of the way on the bike, it was a nail biting finale- or maybe just a relief to cross the line!![]()

The day was rounded off with tears, a surprise podium, and a surprise hen/stag meal for me and Mo - some big goals achieved and great memories made, which surely has to be what it is all about 🙂![]()

Interestingly that was the final ever Challenge Lisboa - next year it is Triton, and not a 70.3. Had the organisers given up this year?
