Early Season Round up

An update on the first couple of months of the year. It’s been a cracking start, with lots of podiums/wins already as well as newcomers and good representation at events, let’s hope we continue this throughout the year!

M3 Aberfeldy Training Weekend

The Aberfeldy training weekend is a highlight of the M3 calendar, and this year did not disappoint, with a jam-packed weekend of swimming, cycling, running, eating and socialising. Thank you to all the coaches and organisers who put on a tremendous event for everybody (and kudos to the beer mile participants and undisputed King of the Beer Mile, Dave Stewart).

St. Andrews Triathlon

Race report courtesy of Miriam Rennet

140 competitors raced in very windy but reasonably warm conditions. 2 M3ers were there Diane Placentino had a good race 1.27.41 and 3rd FV and I did a 1.28.16 and was 1st FSV. Pool swim…. let’s not go there my lane was a mess having to stop Nobody lapped anyone so if we had all worked together …..Diane’s counting let her down….easily done

Having climbed into a gale for what seemed like 8 miles it was a bit too exciting hurtling downhill at about 34mph with a gusting side wind physically moving the bike across the road. Run was very scenic round the cathedral but did have a set of challenging uneven stone steps to negotiate twice and the second time up I tripped and almost face planted.

M3 Handicapped Spring Duathlon

The Scottish spring weather was out in force, but we didn’t let that dampen our spirits, or a fantastic BBQ spread. A great effort from everyone, so thanks to everyone who turned up to make events like this successful, particularly organiser and chef Lewis. Special mention to Jamie who completed the cycle route on Unicycle!

Aviemore 100

Aviemore 100 is new event to the racing calendar, for those of us inclined to do a road-mountain-bike-athlon: 70k road bike followed by 30k mountain bike. “Great route and tracks, well organised and friendly”, sounds like Dave Stewart will be back next year…

Nottingham Sprint Tri and European Age Group Champ Qualifier

Race report courtesy of Miriam Rennet:

Fab to meet up with old friends and new Marathon 8.5 hour drive to get there due to accidents and ridiculous volumes of traffic. Was delighted to do a 1 hr 15 min and 37sec and squeeze 4th in my age category out of 36. The top 4 in each age group Qualify….phew Well done Ursula who came 13 in the same age cat.
David had a fantastic race in a massively tough age group to come 6th out of 61 in a fab time of 1.05.10
Weather was glorious 23 degrees and no wind but a bit hot on the run.
